(based on The Murder of Roger Ackroyd) opened at the Prince of Wales Theatre with Charles Laughton as Poirot and J H Roberts as Dr. Sheppard. The play ran for 250 performances in London.

Verdict opened at the Strand Thetre. The play failed to please and closed down June 21st. It was booed by the gallery on its first night due to a ligthening-cue misunderstanding which caues the curtain to come down on the final scene about 40 seconds too soon.'

The Hollow opened at the Fortune Theatre in London starring Beryl Baxter and George Thorpe. The play was later transferred to the Ambassador Theatre.

Ten Little Indians opened at the Broadhurst Theatre, New York, starring Michael Whalen, Halliwell Hobbes and Harry Worth.

The first Icelandic translation of an Agatha Christie book was published in the newspaper Þjóðviljinn. It was the first part of The Murder of Roger Ackroyd and was called Hver er sá seki? (Who is the guilty one?)

The Unexpected Guest opened in London at the Duchess Theatre. It played 604 performances. Originally it played for a week at the Hippodrome, Bristol, before coming to London.

In a news report it was announced that Agatha Christie had been granted a provisional divorce from Col. Archibald Christie. She got custody of their child.
