Stykkishólmur

Locator

Stykkisholmur and Sugandisey

Stykkishólmur is at the tip of Þórsnes,
and the island in the harbour entrance is called Súgandisey.
Stykkishólmur has been a trading place since 1597
when the German Carsten Bache obtained leave from the
King of Denmark and Iceland to trade here.

Stykkishólmur is in the settlement of Þórólfur Mostrarskegg,
who was a great believer in Þór.
His name was either Hrólfur or Úlfur, but he added
the name of his favourite god in front of his name,
and became known as Þórólfur,
and did the same to his son, whose name was Steinn,
his name became Þórsteinn.

The stamp was issued in 1986 with a face value of 10 krónur.
Artist: Þröstur Magnússon.
