Skeggi

The mountain Skeggi is at the edge of Mount Veturlandafjall,
between Stapadalur and Lokinhamradalur in the fjord Arnarfjörður.
An imposing mountain towering over the remote
farmhouse, Skeggi reaches a height of 520 meters (1700 feet).
The settler in Arnarfjörður was Örn, but he
sold the part where Skeggi stands to
Án rauðfeldur, An Red-Skincoat.
The farm of Án was at Eyri, deeper in Arnarfjörður,
which is now known as Hrafnseyri, and was the
birthplace of Jón
Sigurðsson.
Án was married to an Irish Princess,
Grélöð, the daughter of Earl Bjartmar.
They started out living at Dufansdalur, but Grélöð
did not like the smell of the earth there.
They moved to Eyri where Grélöð
thought that the grass smelled like honey.
The stamp was issued in 1989 with a face value of 35 krónur.
Artist: Þröstur Magnússon
Printed in Heliogravure by Courvoisier.
