The first Seal of Reykjavík was designed and made
in 1815 with the approval of the King.
The design is a curious blend of
classical and everyday imagery:
The symbols of the Greek god of Commerce
are held aloft by a bearded man dressed like a fisherman.
A fishing boat and salted cod are in the background.
In the front are the symbols of the Saga age:
A sword, a helmet and a shield bearing a swan.

The stamp was issued in 1986 with a face value of 10 krónur,
to commemorate the 200 year anniversary of The City Charter.
Artist: Þröstur Magnússon
Engraver: J. H. Nijhuis.
