Straumönd - Harlequin Duck
Histronicus histronicus

Harlequin Duck - Straumond

The Harlequin Duck likes to frequent swift running rivers, and the Icelandic name of Straumönd, Current Duck, is derived from this habit. The stamp shows a male Harlequin Duck, which is much more resplendent than the female.
Length is about 43 cms - about 17 inches.

The stamp was issued in 1977 with a face value of 40 krónur,
to commemorate the European Wetlands Year.
Printed in Heliogravure by Courvoisier.
