The Gyrfalcon builds its nests on rocky ledges, and old Ravens nests. Eggs number from 3-4, but often only one chick manages to leave the nest. The breeding stock of the Icelandic Gyrfalcon is estimated at 3-400 pairs.

The stamp was issued in 1992 with a face value of 5 krónur,
and in co-operation with the WWF.
