The Gyrfalcon is a true bird of the Arctic, its habitation being restricted to the rim around the Arctic Ocean.
There are two sub-species, the Icelandic one, grey-mottled, and the Greenland one, whiter in colour. The white sub-species is extinct in Iceland.
The stamp was issued in 1992 with a face value of 35 krónur,
and in co-operation with the WWF.
