The Gyrfalcon was the most prized possession of Kings and Emperors in medieval times. The stock of the Icelandic Gyrfalcon was the property of the King of Denmark and Iceland, and the falcons were used to curry favour with other heads of state.
The stamp was issued in 1930 with a face value of 10 aurar.
