The Gyrfalcon is the most famous Icelandic Bird of Prey. It was threatened with extinction up until 1940, but then a Protection Act was passed, and the stock is protected the year round. Length is about 55 cms - about 22 inches.
The stamp was issued in 1960 with a face value of 25 krónur.
