A National Park, Þingvellir is the site where
the old Alþing was held from 930 AD onwards.
The great natural beauty of the lava formations
make this one of the most beautiful sites in Iceland.

In the foreground is Lögberg, where the old Alþing was held.
The speaker stood there and recited the laws at the start of the Alþing.
The gorge, Almannagjá, is the rift between the continental
plates of Europe and America, on the right Europe, on the left America.
Below is another view of Almannagjá, to the west.

Öxarárfoss - Axe River Falls - at Þingvellir.
The river was moved from its old bed to a new one
in order to provide water for the people at the Alþing.
This was done before the Alþing was started in AD 930.
