Goðafoss - The Falls of the Gods

© Copyright Ed Jackson - Email
An imposing sight, the Goðafoss waterfall is
supposed to have been so named after the local
chieftain threw the statues of his old gods
into the falls after Christianity was accepted
in Iceland in the year 1000. Another suggestion is that
the settlers considered the falls themselves to be holy.
Goðafoss is in the Skjálfandi river in north Iceland.
