Virtually Virtual Iceland

By accident of birth I happen to be Icelandic,
born and live in a beautiful country, Iceland,
which borders the Arctic Circle in the Atlantic ocean.
When I started looking at the Web for information on Iceland,
what amazed me was how little there was to find.
I realize that Iceland is not the largest island in the world,
not even in the Atlantic, but I felt that my country,
its history, people and its beautiful nature deserved a better deal.
The information I located was mainly put there by foreigners,
or by Icelandic individuals of their own account.
Some of these people I have contacted
and have added their material to my pages,
and some of them have become good acquaintances.
But there were gaping holes in the information
presented about Iceland on the Web.
Which brings me to the reason for these pages.
I wanted to add my bit to what was there,
and as long as my service provider tolerates
my material crowding their disc space
I will continue to do so.
Of course the material on the web about Iceland
has grown by leaps and bounds in quality
and quantity since I started in 1996.
At one point I planned to take this site down
when visits had reached 100,000, but the pages are still here,
and will continue to plague the citizens
of the web for the time being at least.
And, besides it is really fun to watch a page grow
out of nothing and realize that it can be seen in Adelaide,
at the same time as I am looking at it in Reykjavík.
So you can expect me to add to these pages,
and to the information on Iceland on the WWW.
The puzzle piece
is used to mark my own contributions on the main page on Iceland.
