Virtually Virtual Iceland
A Fishy Story
The Icelandic economy is an extremely fishy one.
About 70 percent of the country's foreign earnings
derive from fish exports.
There is only a small percentage of the
total work force involved in the actual catch
of the fish and processing it, but
the rest of the population earn their living distributing
the national income among themselves and those who earn it,
so it is really just like any other economy in the world,
except that it has a distinctly Fishy basis.
Most of you are only acquainted with fish
as a breaded stick on a plate in pleasant
surroundings with chips and vegetables.
So I thought I should offer you the opportunity to
have a look at the fish as God made them,
and old style curing of codfish, and a modern
fish processing plant.
As well as a modern trawler and a small fishing boat.

Just click on any of the creatures above
and you will be rewarded with some fishy information,
the name of the species in Icelandic and English,
and some useless information by Yours truly.
This is just a small selection of the fauna
caught off Icelandic shores. There may be more to come. |
