The Winter Wren is a resident the whole year round. The greatest singer of Icelandic birds, pleasing the ears with a long soft singing during summer, but during winter a low, loud chirp. The main characteristic of the Winter Wren is the incessant wagging of its tail while sitting. Length is about 11 cms - about 4 inches.
The stamp was issued in 1981 with a face value of 50 aurar.
