Auðnatittlingur - Common Redpoll
Acanthis flammea

Common Redpoll - Audnatittlingur

The Common Redpoll is a resident and a stop-over guest.
The male sports a reddish tinge on his chest,
which turns lighter during wintertime.
Half a century ago the Common Redpoll was only common
in the forests of Eastern Iceland, but increased forestry
has ensured more widespread habitation.
Length is about 13 cms - about 5 inches.

The stamp was issued in 1995 with a face value of 25 krónur.
Artist: Þröstur Magnússon.
