Óðinshani - Red-necked Phalarope Phalaropus lobatus

The Red-necked Phalarope is a migratory bird in Iceland, and is common near lakes with a lot of midges, which are among the birds favourite food. Both of the sexes look alike, but the male is a little smaller than the female and not as colourful, as the female on the stamp.
Length is about 18 cms - about 7 inches.
The stamp was issued in 1989 with a face value of 19 krónur.
