Phalaropus lobatus

Red-necked Phalarope - Odinshani

The Red-necked Phalarope is a migratory bird in Iceland,
and is common near lakes with a lot of midges,
which are among the birds favourite food.
Both of the sexes look alike, but the male is a little smaller
than the female and not as colourful, as the female on the stamp.
Length is about 18 cms - about 7 inches.

The stamp was issued in 1989 with a face value of 19 krónur.
Artist: Þröstur Magnússon
Printed in Heliogravure by Courvoisier.
