Golden Plover - Heidloa

The Golden Plover is the harbinger of summer in Iceland.
A migrant - the Golden Plover usually arrives in May
and the first Golden Plover is eagerly awaited.
"The Golden Plover has arrived to sing away the snow,"
states an old favourite Icelandic song.
Length is about 28 cms - about 11 inches.

The stamp was issued in 1981 with a face value of 1 króna.
