Flórgoði - Slavonian Grebe
Podiceps auritus

The Slavonian Grebe is a resident or migratory bird in Iceland, and is the only Icelandic bird to build floating nests. Both of the sexes look alike, and the stamp shows the birds in summer plumage. The winter plumage is much more drab. Length is about 36 cms - about 14 inches.
The stamp was issued in 1991 with a face value of 25 krónur.
Artist: Þröstur Magnússon Printed in Heliogravure by Courvoisier.
