Falco rusticolus

The Gyrfalcon has been the symbol of Iceland through the ages.
This Gyrfalcon graces the reverse of an old banknote,
and is of the white variety which has been extinct in Iceland
for some centuries.
The Gyrfalcon was a prized hunting bird of Kings and Emperors in the Middle Ages.
Length is about 55 cms - about 22 inches.

The stamp was issued in 1986 with a face value of 250 krónur.
