Sólskríkja - Snow Bunting

Snow Bunting - Solskrikja

The Snow Bunting is a resident, a migrant and a passer through,
the Snow Buntings of Greenland stopping over on their way.
The Snow Bunting changes plumage from summer to winter,
the bird in the foreground on the stamp is in summer plumage,
and the bird in the back in winter plumage.
In Iceland the bird also changes names from season to season,
being known as Sólskríkja (Sun Singer) in the summer,
and Snjótittlingur (Snow Bunting) in the winter.
Length is about 17 cms - about 7 inches.

The stamp was issued in 1989 with a face value of 100 krónur.
