Vanessa Chamberlain, played by Maeve Kinkead first arrived in Springfield in 1980 with her father Henry Chamberlain. In 1988 she left for Venezuela but she came back in 1989, and left in 2000. She's currently married to Matt Reardon but in her days she's had many affairs including the wild affair with Ross Marler. She gave birth to Dinah, who she gave up for adoption (she was just a teenager then anyway). Vanessa was previously involved with Andy Norris, Mark Evans, Tony Reardon, Ed Bauer, Fletcher Reade and Alan Spaulding. She has also been married to Billy Lewis twice and they have a son together.

When Vanessa was a teenager she was very troubled and spoiled but when she married Billy for the first time she settled down a bit. Billy and Vanessa had little Billy (Vanessa's second baby) and were planning to live happily ever after. But something came up. Alan Spaulding hired Reva Shayne to break up Billy and Vanessa. Reva didn't succeed but for awhile their marriage was on a shaky ground. Billy however got hooked up on gambling and that also took it's toll. Billy and Vanessa began growing apart and when she told him that she and Ross had a daughter out there somewhere, he totally flipped out. His jealousy eventually caused them their marriage. Vanessa and Billy got a divorce and Billy moved to Venezuela. Vanessa and Ross found Dinah and had a short affair which ended rather sadly.

Vanessa's next romance was Alan Spaulding. Alan and Vanessa had been working together at Spaulding for some time and grew to care for each other. Alan proposed to Vanessa and she accepted. Alan however only wanted Vanessa for a business reason when he was actually in love with Reva Shayne, Vanessa was just to blind to see this and almost got married to him. Reva however was in love with Joshua and didn't want anything to do with Alan. Finally Vanessa realized that she and Alan weren't meant for each other and she broke up the engagement. At this time Vanessa got a letter from Billy. Billy was sick and needed his ex-wife and son badly. Vanessa rushed to Venezuela leaving Alan furious at her. Later Alan and Reva got married.

When Vanessa and Billy came back in 1989, they got married again. They adopted a little boy named Peter Reardon. Peter was actually Bridget Reardon's biological son. Well, Vanessa and Billy's marriage ended when Billy went to jail for attempted murder of Roger Thorpe. Vanessa then met Matt and they got married. Vanessa was diagnosed as having a horrible disease that would destroy her ability to see, hear, move and feel. Vanessa was worried about being a burden to her family so she faked her own deth with the help of Zachary. She escaped to Switzerland, but with the help of Michael Burke and his experimental drugs, she overcame this disease. Michael and Vanessa travelled back to Springfield to let her family and Matt know that she was still alive. Vanessa and Matt have a daughter together named Maureen Reardon. Vanessa recently left Spriengfield. She shared a tearful goodbye with Billy Lewis and Bill. I really didn't expect this. I am going to miss Vanessa very much.
