Reva Shayne, played by Kim Zimmer, is the Queen of Guiding Light. She joined Guiding Light in 1983 and left in 1990. But she returned again in 1995 and has been a staple of Guiding Light ever since. Reva was brought to Springfield by Alan Spaulding to break up Billy and Vanessa Lewis. Reva didn't succeed however and got involved with Joshua Lewis. They were planning on getting married but when Josh found out that she had been brought to Springfield to break up his brother's marriage, he forgot all about it. Reva then got involved with Josh's father, H.B. and later they got married. Reva discovered that she was pregnant with H.B.'s child. Josh then had a car accident but when he recovered, he left town, bitter and disappointed. Reva however lost the baby but stayed with H.B. for a little while. Reva then got involved with a man named Kyle Sampson. Reva finally got a divorce from H.B. and could marry Kyle.

Reva and Kyle's relationship was over however when Kyle's ex flame Maeve Stoddard arrived in Springfield, brought by Kyle's mother Sally Gleason. Kyle and Maeve got married on New Year's Eve and Reva was so upset that she jumped off a bridge, trying to kill herself. She was saved, but her suicide attempt made her famous. Her good friend Fletcher Reade, wrote about her in the journal and everyone admired her courage. When Maeve told Kyle that their baby was dead, he immediately divorced her and got involved with Reva again. They were planning on getting married but when Josh returned to Springfield, Reva realized that she was still in love with him and broke up her engagement. Kyle then left town and Josh and Reva got involved again. Reva then discovered that she was carrying Josh's baby. Josh found out the baby was Kyle's and left her, letting her know that while he was in Venezuela before, he had married a woman named Sonni Carrera. Reva of course didn't understand why Josh hadn't told her before but Josh didn't seem to care.

Sonni arrived to Springfield and got involved with Josh. Reva however got involved with Alan Spaulding. Josh then found out that Sonni was cheating on him with his best friend Will Jeffries. The two of them were planning to kill Josh and leave town with his money. Reva found out about it and told Josh everything. Josh was crushed. Sonni then tried to kill Reva but didn't succeed. Josh divorced Sonni and got involved with Reva again. Reva then found out that her baby was really Josh's. They were thrilled. Finally they got married. It was a lovely wedding and very memorable. After the wedding, Reva found her long lost son, Dylan. She had given him up for adoption becauause she was so young. Dylan forgave her and they became very close. Then Reva had Shayne. After Shayne's birth, she suffered from serious post-partum depression and drove her car into the ocean while she was on vacation in Florida. Everyone assumed she was dead but she wasn't.

When Josh finally overcame the death of his wife, he got involved with Harley Cooper. Josh proposed to her and she accepted. But when Billy told him that he had seen Reva on an Italian TV show, he left Harley and took off. Reva however returned to Springfield in 1995 and had amnesia. Josh was married to Annie Dutton at the time but of course he still loved Reva. Soon Reva got her memory back and fought custody of Marah and Shayne. Reva then realized that the kids really loved Annie so she backed off with the custody thing. Determined to go on with her own, she married Buzz Cooper. Shortly after their marriage, she visited her dying mother and made a promise to find the child she had given up for adoption years ago. Despite their marriages, Reva and Josh were still undeniably in love with one another and Reva divorced Buzz.

Annie became obsessed with keeping Josh and was artificially inseminated. When she miscarried, she threw herself down a flight of stairs and blamed it on Reva. At her trial, the truth came out and Reva was released. Annie the teamed up with Alan to destroy the Lewises and hired Cassie Layne who turned out to be the long lost sister Reva promised to find. After their private wedding ceremony at Cross Creek, Annie kidnapped Reva, locked her in a plane, and left her to die in a crash over the Florida Keys. Once again, Reva survived and was washed up on an island to be found by Sean McCullough, who also helped her return to Springfield. During her absence and presumed death, Josh had cloned so that he could avoid telling the children that their mother had died. Once Reva returned home, she met the Clone, who knocked her out and locked her away in the lighthouse and later the family pool house.

She tried several times (unsuccessfully) to trick the Clone so that Josh would know she was still alive. On his way to Cross Creek to marry the Clone, Josh suddenly realized that Reva was alive and returned home to find her nearly dead in the family pool house. After seeing the love between Josh and Reva, the clone took an overdose of Michael's aging formula and ended up dying of old age. Reva and Josh thinking that they would finally be happy ended up a victim, once again to Annie Dutton. This time Annie came in the form of Teri DeMarco, having had plastic surgery and stolen her identity. She used a highly suggestible drug on Josh and made him first attracted to Cassie, running Cassie away from the house. Second she tried to get him to hate Reva, that one didn't work and Last she tried to get him to want her. He ended up going crazy.

Teri/Annie faked an attack on herself and she had Josh arrested and committed saying he did it just to keep him away from Reva. During his stay at the hospital he and Reva figure out the whole plan about the drug and tell Frank. After leaving the hospital Reva and Josh go to "the Islands" and find the real Teri DeMarco in a clinic in a coma. They go back to Springfield, tell Frank, who thinks they're crazy. They go to Teri/Annie's apartment and find the comatose Teri lying n the floor. They call 911 and Frank comes and blames them for the Teri being unconscious. Frank starts to charge Reva with attempted murder and Josh insists that it was his fault, trying to keep Reva out of trouble. Ross gets all the charges dropped and Reva and Josh are back on the case trying to find where Annie is.

After finding Annie and confirming that she was no longer a threat to them, Reva and Josh set out to find out where Reva was during her amnesia period. Traveling to San Cristobel, Reva was shocked to discover that she was married to a prince and bore his child, whom she disappeared with. After a while she regained her memory. It seems she gave the child to someone else because the prince's brother was trying the murder him. After deciding to leave the child with the family he grew up with, she returned to Springfield. However it was obvious to everyone that she was still in love with Richard. Reva's obsession with Richard put a rift in her relationship with Cassie and contributed to her and Josh's separation.
