Nicolette Goulet was Meredith Reade from 1987 to 1989. Meredith is Fletcher Reade's sister and a doctor with a great reputation. She came to Springfield to take care of a heart patient. Meredith and Rick Bauer were working on the case together. They began falling for each other and soon started dating. They were really quite a pair. Then Rick's cousin Johnny Bauer was diagnosed with cancer and Rick and Maredith were both working on the case. Johnny had given up on life and wanted nature to take it's course. In other words Johnny wanted to die but Meredith wanted him to have an operation that might save his life. The operation would take away half of Johnny's face so Johnny refused. Rick agreed with Johnny and that made Meredith furious.

Meredith thought Rick was incompetent and decided to presh charges against him. Rick, of course was very surprised. Fletcher tried to convince her to drop the charges but she did't listen to him at all. The reason Meredith was acting this way was because her mother had died of cancer. In fact, when Meredith saw how horrible this illness was, she gave her an overdose of medicine which killed her. So Meredith was really punishing her self by preshing those charges. Fleatcher's girlfriend Maeve found out about Meredith's mother and theatened to tell Rick and Ed the truth if she didn't drop the charges. Maeve told Ed and Meredith resigned from Cedars. When Rick found out the truth he forgave her and soon she got her job back at Ceders, working with Rick of course.

After some time, Johnny got cured for some reason. Meredith was amazed and was determined to find the reason for this miracle. But she found now reason at all. Johnny was not just cured but he also had powers to heal others. At this time Meredith and Rick were beginning to grow close again. They got married and were planning to live happily ever after, but of course they didn't. When Rick and Meredith were having some problems, Meredith turned to Rick's best friend Phillip Spaulding. They made love and Meredith got pregnant. Rick knew that this baby couln't be his but he didn't know it was Phillip's. When Meredith went into labor, Rick had to choose who's life to save. The baby didn't make it but Meredith did. Meredith knew she couldn't have any more children so she left Rick, knowing he wanted children and she couldn't give him any. Rick learned the truth about the baby's parentage but he eventually forgave his friend.
