Maeve Stoddard

Maeve Stoddard, played by the great Leslie Denniston, joined Guiding Light in 1985 and left in 1988. Maeve, who was Kyle Sampson's ex-girlfriend, was brought to Springfield by Sally Gleason. Maeve was supposed to break up Kyle and Reva and she succeeded. Kyle and Maeve made love and of course Maeve got pregnant. Kyle and Maeve later got married. When Maeve realized what a monster Kyle really was, she faked their baby's death by telling Kyle it had been stillborn. Kyle and Maeve got a divorce and Kyle got involved with Reva again. Maeve however befriended Fletcher Reade and they soon fell in love. Fletcher was also a big consolation during her rough marriage to Kyle. Maeve's other loyal friend was India Von Halkein Spaulding.

When Kyle eventually learned that his child was still alive, he fought for custody and won. With Fletcher's help, Maeve got little Ben back and they finally could be happy. Kyle left town and Fletcher proposed to Maeve. Maeve didn't accept because she was still on the rebound after her awful marriage. Fletcer understood so they decided to wait. They were living together though and Fletcher became Ben's loyal and devoted stepfather. Soon, Fletcher's sister Meredith Reade arrived in Springfield and Maeve asked her if she would like to live with them. Meredith accepted.

At this time, Meredith was pressing charges against Rick Bauer. One night, Maeve overheared Meredith and Fletcher talking in the livingroom. Meredith was talking about the time when she was a little girl and her mother had had cancer. Meredith gave her mother an overdose of medicine and that eventually killed her. Meredith was guilty about this but Fletcher was trying to convince her that it was the right thing to do, considering the pain their mother was in. Well, when Maeve heared Meredith's confession, she decided to tell Rick all about it. Fletcher however was furious at Maeve for her interference and left her. That was it for Maeve and Fletcher, at least for awhile.

In 1988, Fletcher became Maeve's partner at the journal. They began seeing each other again and finally they got married. Soon after their honeymoon, Maeve got killed in a horrible helicopter accident. Fletcher, who was of course very sad, fought custody of Ben over Maeve's mother. Fletcher won and he has been raising Ben ever since.
