Frank Cooper, played by Frank Dicopoulos, joined Guiding Light in 1987 and has been with us ever since. Frank is the son of Buzz Cooper and Nadine Cooper. He's the father of Marine. When Frank began the character of Frank Cooper, he was running a small car garage on 5th street. He was living in a small apartment with his sister, Harley Cooper and also his old grandfather. They were very poor and Frank always had to provide everything. Frank and his grandfather also had a small diner. At this time, George Stewart, Cameron's father was smuggling drugs through Frank's garage. Frank was also chopping cars for George, despite his better judgement. The only reason Frank was doing this was because George had threatened to tell his son that Harley had a baby out there somewere. Harley and Cameron were dating at that time. Eventually, George was arrested and Frank stopped chopping cars.

At this time, Frank was remarkably in love with Rusty's girlfriend, Mindy Lewis. Later, Frank and Mindy had an affair but that didn't work out at all. Mindy was in love with Josh's friend Will Jeffries. They got married, disappointing Frank a great deal. Frank then got involved with Dana Jones. They were very good together and planned on getting married. Then someone started stalking Chelsea Reardon. Dana was accused of this and was eventually arrested. Out on bail, Dana found out that Rea Rooney was the one stalking Chelsea. Before Dana could tell anyone, Rea killed her. Frank found out that Rea was the one who killed Dana and had her arrested. It took Frank some time to get over Dana but when he did, he started dating Chelsea. Clealse was however in love with Fletcher Reade so it didn't work out. Again, Frank was left alone and heartbroken.

Frank finally found love with Greek immigrant, Eleni Andros, who was brought over by Frank's uncle as a bride for Frank. Frank didn't appreciate his uncle's actions however and was very antagonistic toward Eleni and first. Though they argued constantly at first, eventually they fell in love. Unfortunately, Frank was too scared to open up to Eleni and tell her how he felt. Believing it was better to show her, Frank started building a house for her, only to have her marry the rich Alan-Michael Spaulding. Devastated, Frank destroyed the house he built. However after a while, he couldn't deny his feelings any longer and confessed his feelings to Eleni and they made love. When Eleni learned that Alan-Michael tricked her into marrying him she divorced him and married Frank. Frank and Eleni's daughter, Marina, was born on their wedding day. Though their marriage suffered because of his objections to her career as a caterer, they found a way to settle their differences and their marriage remained solid.

Soon after his marriage, Frank learned that the father he adored DID NOT die a hero a Vietnam, but had actually deserted his family after being discharged. When Frank's dad, Buzz, came back to town, Frank felt betrayed and it took him a long time to get over his resentment. However, Frank would eventually form a close relationship with not only his father but also his mother who had returned to town years earlier. A few years ago, Frank decided to follow his sister's example and become a police officer. Frank is now a well-respected member of the Springfield PD and is regarded as one of the most dependable, least corruptible people in Springfield. Though his life seemed perfect , behind closed doors his marriage was falling apart. Too proud to tell his family about his problems, Frank kept quiet. Unfortunately there marital problems were too large to handle alone and Eleni left Frank.
