Ed Bauer has been played by many actors. The first Ed was Pat Collins and he was Ed from 1959 to 1961. Then there was Robert Gentry, he was Ed from 1966 to 1969, and then from 1997 to the present. Mart Hulswitt was Ed from 1969 to 1981. The next one was Peter Simon (pictured here). Peter was Ed from 1981 to 1984 and again from 1986 to 1996. To me and probably most Guiding Light fans Peter Simon will always be the only Ed Bauer. Another very talented actor was Ed from 1984 to 1986. His name was Richard Van Fleet. I still remember him very well. He was Ed in the "Beirut" saga. Ed has had four wives. First he was married to Lesly Jackson. Than he was married to Holly Norris. Then Rita Stapton and finally the lovely and popular Maureen Reardon. Ed has cheated on more than one of his wives. Ed cheated on Holly and Holly also cheated on him. Rita Stapton, Ed's third wife was raped by Roger Thorpe and later she lost Ed's baby because of Roger. Ed still managed to have two children-- Rick and Michelle Bauer. Ed is Cedars greatest doctor.

Ed married Maureen in 1983. They were very good together, I think. Ed and Maureen befriended Fletcher Reade and Claire Ramsey. Fletcher and Claire were together at this time. When Fletcher went to Beirut, Claire, Ed and Maureen followed him there. Fletcher however had lost his daughter, Rebecca there and was still mourning over her. Ed and Claire received word that both Maureen and Fletcher were assumed dead because of a bomb. Ed and Claire thought they were dead and made love. But of course Fletcher and Maureen came back. When they were all back in Springfield,Claire found out she was pregnant. Ed also discovered that Fletcher had had a vasectomy so he couldn't be the baby's father. Ed realized the baby was his. He and Maureen broke up and so did Fletcher and Claire. After Michelle was born, Ed and Maureen got back together. Later Claire turned custody of Michelle over to Ed and Maureen. Claire got married to a Dr. Mark Jarrett. Claire and Mark left town and Fletcher got involved with Maeve Stoddard.

In 1992, Ed had an affair with Lillian Raines, who was overcoming breast cancer. One night, when Ed and Lillian were stuck in Cedars parking garage, they made love, then Ed ended the affair. Maureen found out about it however and confronted Ed about it at the cabin. She rushed out of the cabin and got into a car accident and was killed. Now Michelle Bauer blames her father and Lillian for her mom's death. When Ed was over Maureen he got involved with Eve Guthrie. Eve suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. Ed was sure that Eve didn't want to be kept alive by articail means, so he pulled the plug on her life support system. After that Ed moved to Africa of all places. Ed came back to Springfield in 1997 and has been with us ever since.
