Danny Santos

Danny Santos returned to Springfield in the Spring of 1998 to avenge his brother's death. Believing that someone at the Millennium had something to do with Mick's death, Danny started working there and after a while he thought he found the killer: Jesse Blue. Determined to make Jesse pay, Danny was shocked when Drew Jacobs told him that she saw Michelle Bauer commit the murder. By this point, Danny had begun to have feelings for Michelle and when he learned that the murder was in self-defense he decided to marry her in a civil ceremony to protect her from his family's wrath. Danny's mother, Carmen, was not happy about the marriage and hated Michelle on sight. Carmen was determined to make Michelle pay for killing her son and set out to prove that the marriage was one of convenience. To prove to his mother that she was wrong, Danny arranged for him and Michelle to be married in a church ceremony. But by the time they exchanged their vows, it was clear that they were truly in love with each other.

By the road to happiness wouldn't be easy. Carmen was determined to keep Danny close to her and get rid of Michelle. When Danny learned that Carmen bombed her own home for sympathy AND called the FBI to make it seem like Michelle did, he wrote off his mother and decided to leave the family business. Though Danny was sincere in his promise, Michelle's family didn't believe it and Michelle's brother had her committed. Luckily Michelle was released and she and Danny married for a third time in a simple ceremony at Laurel Fall in July 1999. Despite more interference from Danny's old girl friend, Theresa, the couple remained devoted to one another. Then tragedy struck. Ben Warren (Carmen's lover) was murdered and all evidence pointed to Michelle. Though Danny wanted to run, Michelle talked him into letting her stand trial. Danny did everything (legal and illegal) to make sure Michelle got off, and despite testimony from Danny's sister admitting that CARMEN shot Ben, Michelle was found guilty because Pilar was seen as mentally unstable.

Though Michelle was resigned to her fate, Danny wasn't and he arranged for her escape. Anxious to evade the police, Danny took Michelle to his family's home in San Cristobel. After convincing Prince Richard to let them remain on the island so they could clear Michelle, Danny thought they were safe. That is until his old girlfriend, Theresa found them at their cottage brandishing a gun. Theresa had been in love with Danny years earlier and hated the fact that he was now with Michelle. While trying to contain the situation, Danny grabbed the gun away from Theresa at the same time someone was entering the window. Thinking it was one of Theresa's goons; he fired only to discover that he'd shot Jesse Blue. Risking imprisonment, Michelle demanded that everyone return to Springfield so Jesse could be treated at Cedars. Upon returning to town, Danny was determined to find the witness who testified about seeing Michelle and get her to admit she perjured herself. Thankfully, at this time Vanessa emerged from her coma and admitted that she and Carmen killed Ben. Michelle was finally exonerated!

With his mother safely in jail, Danny thought the worst was over. However when he tried to get out of the family business, he was threatened by the other mob families. Under pressure to either head the family business or watch harm come to his wife, Danny turned to his mother for help and asked her to testify against the other mob families in exchange for her release. Unfortunately, that deal proved fatal for his mother who was shot and killed before being transported. Consumed with anger over his mother's death, Danny vowed revenge on whomever did it, even if it meant getting involved with the other mob families.
